LAw student Intern/Externships
NCPLS regularly hosts law students of all class levels for both semester and summer terms. Interns work with attorneys on a broad range of assignments and topics. Common tasks include:
- research projects
- reviewing trial transcripts and discovery
- drafting pleadings
- client interviews
- initial case reviews
- attending meetings and hearings as they arise.
Summer Interns are expected to work a full summer, from mid-May through the beginning of August. Work requirements for semester interns are more flexible and can be negotiated on an individual basis. NCPLS participates in law school recruitment programs and career fairs at several North Carolina law schools. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply through those programs where applicable. Applicants may also submit materials directly to our office. Applications should include a resume, cover letter, and brief writing sample.
Applications for summer internships must be submitted by February 1st. Fall semester applications should be submitted by mid-July at the latest, and Spring semester applications should be submitted by mid-November.
